Fort McKavett State Historic Site
Scouting Program

SCOUT PROGRAM: Fort McKavett State Historic Site offers scouting groups across Texas an unique opportunity to stay overnight in the historic fort buildings.  Designed for smaller groups with a 1:4 adult to child ratio, scouts may stay in tents, reserve the center room of Barracks #4, or the Headquarters building.  Fees are dependant on the accommodations needed.  Scouts may be asked to assume responsibility for the raising and lowering of the colors during their stay.  Showers (in season) are available as well as potra-potties.  Cots are no longer available, campers must provide their own cots or bedrolls.

SERVICE PROJECTS: Scouts can also participate in a service project, under the direction of site staff and supervised by scout leaders and other chaperones. Every child between the age of 12 and 18 participating in a service project must have a Release of Liability (download here) , completely filled out and signed by their parent or legal guardian. In addition to the Release of Liability, no scout under the age of 12 will be permitted to participate in a service project unless their parent or guardian is present at the work site and agrees to supervise the minor at all times during the volunteer program.  Scout Leaders, please bring all signed Release of Liability forms with you, do not fax, email or mail the forms.  All children not participating in a service project must be supervised at all times by adult(s). The contact person for your scout group will be given the information necessary to fill out the Release of Liability by a site representative..
